Celebrate Spring Equininox with us at Abbot’s Mill
Saturday 21st March, 5-6pm, The Abbot’s Mill, St. Radigund’s Street, Canterbury
Join us at the Abbot’s Mill Garden for Spring Equinox, a day of near-perfect alignment between day and night. A turning point in the year that harnesses balance, equality, and renewal.
The event will take place on Saturday 21st March at 5pm and last approximately one hour. Please arrive on time to avoid disruption.
Together we will celebrate the re-birth and growth of life after a cold and wet winter, and set our intentions for the season ahead.
This event is non denominational but will be following a pagan theme and drawing on cultural references from around the world.
This is a family space and all ages are welcome to come along and participate. Please dress appropriately for the weather and we look forward to welcoming brighter days ahead.

Celebrate Imbolc, a turning of the season
Join us for Imbolc, Saturday 31st January, 5-6.30pm, The Abbot’s Mill, St. Radigund’s Street, Canterbury
Following a very excellent and enthusiastic turnout at our winter solstice ritual, we’re eager to welcome you back to the Abbot’s Mill for the turning of the season. We’re now approaching Imbolc, or St. Brigit’s Day, which is known to be a festival of cleansing.
Join us on Saturday 31st January at 5pm at the Abbot’s Mill to mark the impending departure of winter and participate in a community cleansing.
This is a pagan-themed, but nondenominational, event and all are welcome!
As a major sabbat, Imbolc is traditionally celebrated with fire, and we will be lighting a strong fire as a gathering point and source of warmth.
As always, these rituals intentionally call for us to connect with nature and fellow animals. It is a vegan ritual, no animal products are used and the benefits of our collective work are hoped to spread beyond the species barrier.
Please dress appropriately for the weather. We do discourage folks from arriving late as it can be disruptive to the ritual. We will be incorporating drumming at this event, please feel free to bring your own percussion.
Family inclusive, dogs warmly welcomed. This is an alcohol and smoke-free space.
Upon arrival, follow the path toward the back – we usually gather by the river at the left side.
Winter Solstice Yuletide Ritual
Join us at the Abbot’s Mill Garden for a special winter Yuletide ritual!
In modern times the winter festival is celebrated primarily by Neo-Pagans and coincides with the winter solstice. It is a time of renewal and reflection, and an opportunity to set intentions as we celebrate the rebirth of the sun and look ahead to longer, brighter days.
On Saturday 13th December, from 3-4pm at the Abbot’s Mill Garden, along the beautiful River Stour, we invite you to join us in a moment of meditation, reflection, and offering.
All are welcome! We ask that you please arrive on time as we will begin the ritual celebration promptly at 3pm by opening the circle for the spirit of the season.
We will have an open fire pit so please keep that in mind and dress appropriately for all weather conditions.

Volunteer session at the Arrowhead
Saturday 6th December 2025, 10am till 12 noon.
We’ll be working on a mixture of litter-picking, pruning and possibly wood-chipping paths. See you there!

Volunteer on Saturday 6th September
Have fun and do good at the site on St. Radigund’s Street between 10am and 12 noon. Litter picking, small jobs, trimming back over enthusiastic brambles and other greenery and digging a trench to lay a cable to power the new gate.
We may be laying down some fresh woodchip on the paths if needed.
Wear sturdy clothes and footwear and bring gardening gloves if you have them.

Late Summer Bat Walk and Talk
This event is hosted jointly by Abbot’s Mill Project and and Kent Bat Group, and will take place on Saturday 30th of August at 7.30pm.
Join us for our regular bat walk and talk on our site along the beautiful River Stour in the heart of Canterbury.
Shirley Thompson and Caroline from Kent Bat Group will guide us on a tour of the local area, teaching us about bats and their habitat. Shirley and Caroline will share with us why these wonderful creatures are a bio-indicator species. We will listen for bats using the bat detectors and, if we are lucky, we will encounter some bats as they go about their evening activities.
This is a family-friendly event, all are welcome. We just ask that everyone stays with the group and is as quiet as possible when we are trying to detect the bats.

Canterbury Heritage Expo 2024
